Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back after the summer break, I hope you all had a fun summer holiday! Year 4 is a very exciting year and there are many enjoyable activities to look forward to. I am sure that you and your child are looking forward to the fun yet challenging year that lies ahead.

As a Year 4 pupil, your child will be given the fantastic opportunity to learn to play the violin in weekly lessons and participate in a class ensemble. Every Thursday morning they will receive lessons leading up to a whole class performance at the Lowry Theatre. Violins and lessons are all provided free of charge. Parents will be asked to sign for the violin to ensure they are returned in original condition.

On Monday mornings all children will go swimming. They need to bring with them a swimming costume or trunks, a towel and a swimming hat. Every child has to wear a swimming hat. Please remember to send your child in with a coat, even if it looks fine in the morning.

We are going to try a new way of reading this year in Year 4. Once your child has finished their reading book and an adult at home has signed their reading diary to say they have read it, they can bring their book back into school and get a new one. I am wanting to develop a love of reading and get children involved in selecting their next books. We will see how this goes!

Homework will be set each week. Children will be given spellings and times tables for their test on Friday mornings. Spellings will be put on google classroom and the school website for the term. Children will be told each week which tables they need to learn. Weekly maths homework will be set online on Active Learn. This maths homework will be set on Monday and should be completed by the following Monday, this will help consolidate any new learning that has taken place through the week. Each half term children will be given a project to complete linked to their geography or history topics. Learning plans, spellings and project information will be uploaded onto google classroom and school website.

Each day children need a coat, water bottle and book bag. Unfortunately, large bags are not permitted due to having limited space to store these. PE kits can stay in school until the half term holidays.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child, please feel free to contact me.
