Keep your child safe from phone thefts
If your child is making their own way home from school or out-and-about with friends, we have a few tips from Greater Manchester Police about phone theft and safety.
Always encourage children and young people to be aware of their surroundings and act on their instincts if they don’t feel safe.
Encourage them to keep phones and valuables out of sight in public areas and never leave them unattended. It only takes seconds to lose a phone.
Use a password or PIN to protect the phone, install a find my phone app and back up photos and data regularly.
Write your postcode on your phone using a UV pen and register it for free on www.immobilise.com – the national property register that can make it easier to return the phone if it is stolen and recovered.
Keep a record of your mobile phone’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) as you will need this if it is stolen - press *#06# into your keypad or ring your network provider to get it.
If your phone is stolen get it blocked. Call your network operator or Immobilise.com on 08701 123 123 if you don’t know the network’s customer service number and report it to the police.
